It’s the day before Thanksgiving and it rained all day. And as I left work at noon and headed to Costco to pick up a few things that I saved for the last minute (in the name of freshness!), I wondered, am I crazy?!
It was a little crazy, but I expected crowds and lines so it wasn’t too bad.
Once home with all the loot, I put on some Christmas songs (why not?) and baked pies! I made lemon meringue, apple and pear minis, and pumpkin. All classics, but I got creative with the crust embellishments. I did a braided crust on the lemon, leaves for the pumpkin, and all different things for the minis.
Cleaned the house and now I’m waiting for my house guests to arrive!
In my continuing quest to get bras that actually fit, I received an order from Nordstrom with four different bras. Unfortunately, none of them fit. But, it was fun to try on new styles and colors! I’ll have to return them and then figure out what to try next.
I dusted the house today. It’s been…. A while. Also, why do we call it dusting when it’s actually dust removal? It should be de-dusting. Or something.
Anyway, I even dusted the ceiling fans. Connor came in at that point and said “That’s disgusting!”
Of course, all that dusting led to vacuuming. I hate vacuuming. Do you sense a theme – I really don’t like cleaning. I can keep the house neat. But clean is a different story. I don’t know why it is. I like having it clean. I just really don’t like to clean.
But, my parents are coming for the holiday. Having guests is the best motivator. I tell my mom it’s a good thing she visits or I’d never clean!
After lunch, I knew what I had to do. Get the thanksgiving groceries. I was expecting crowds and lines, but it really wasn’t that bad. The store wasn’t more crowded than usual for a Sunday and there were no lines. The hardest part was loading the car in the frigid wind and then getting it all in the house.
Now we are ready to cook!
I braved the mall today. The crowds are already out! Also, it is too late to get anything for thanksgiving at most stores! I wanted to just pick up a few things to decorate the table but most stores had nothing. Hobby Lobby for the win! They still had a good selection of fall decor for 80% off!
Naps and then dinner with the family – this day ended up being a perfect balance between accomplishment and relaxation.
One of my favorite local shops for good sandwiches, burgers and more – Main Street Deli.
Today, my plans for dinner fell through. I had planned to make beef stew, but the beef I had purchased was bad. I should have put it in the freezer when I bought it. And I had already invited my sister over for dinner. So it was Main Street Deli to the rescue!
I visited Connor last night. I was sitting in his room, on the floor, when out of the blue, he says to me “Goose!” I took that as my cue to run!
We also had adventures with an elephant, a bear, a mermaid, and a bird. The mind of a two-year-old is so fun!
