I have a cookie swap coming up and I tried this recipe for blood orange bars. The magazine picture shows them decorated by sifting powdered sugar over a snowflake shape.

I couldn’t find any blood oranges, so I used regular oranges and a little red food coloring to get the same look. They came out beautiful and delicious.

But! They are very messy and delicate. I don’t think they’ll be good for the swap. Also, the powdered sugar soaked into the bars overnight so the decoration would have to be done immediately before serving.

They are so delicious though. I brought them to work and they disappeared. Make them soon!
